Are you a fan of Hollywood blockbusters? They can definitely provide a lot of entertainment for viewers. However, if you don’t watch independent films you should also consider them. Here are some of the main benefits:

  1. Actors/Actresses

More specifically, it’s much more practical for indie filmmakers to find fresh new actors/actresses for their film. Hollywood actors and actresses can certainly be outstanding. However, it’s rare to see a blockbuster film that includes all new faces.

That’s one of the ironic benefits of indie film’s smaller budgets. It gives the director/producer the ability to choose quality actors/actresses that are willing to work for less money. It’s a win-win situation for both parties.  Many of today’s A-list Hollywood actors/actresses started out in indie films that most people haven’t heard of. However, they were able to get someone’s attention due to the quality of their work.

  1. Unpredictable

When indie filmmakers make their movies one of the key benefits is that they can take more risks. That’s because they don’t have to worry about earning enough profits to pay for a sequel, follow a “formula” that the public wants and expects, etc.

This tends to make indie films more exciting. They can use more creativity and innovation. The reason is they don’t have to follow certain guidelines to a tee. This is a plus because it allows the director to add an unexpected twist at the end of the film, for example. That, in turn, will make the film more exciting, which in theory should be one of the goals of making any movie.

  1. Creativity

This is easily one of the key benefits of indie films. Mainstream filmmakers often have to follow a “pattern” or “formula” about what the general public wants to see. This will in turn help to boost box office receipts and turn a profit. At the end of the day, that’s basically what investors want to see so they can make money on the deal.

Indie films have a smaller budget but there are some advantages. Due to less money on the line screenwriters, directors, etc. have more chances to use creativity to make the movie. This is definitely a plus because it helps to make a more creative movie. It might not make a $1 billion, but it will definitely result in a movie that includes artistic liberties that wouldn’t be available for most Hollywood films.

  1. Niche

Indie films are a niche market in the industry. This can be a good thing because it’s created a sub culture of sorts. The Sundance Film Festival, for example, started out as a small event in Utah that features moviemakers who weren’t part of the Hollywood system.

So if you become an indie film fan you can find new friends who are also fans of the “movement.” You could join clubs or Facebook groups to discuss and learn about independent movies. It can be quite exciting when you’re involved in a niche that doesn’t include the movies that are mass produced by the Hollywood system.
